The Rotary Club of Hudson, Rotary District 6630 is seeking Hudson families to host a foreign exchange student for the school year beginning in August 2017. Each of three families will host the student for a three-month period. Rotary’s inbound exchange student, Lucas, is a 16-year-old boy from Brazil and will be enrolled as a junior in Hudson High School.
Lucas enjoys listening to music and playing basketball. His favorite subjects are math and physics. His mother is a geography teacher, his father an agronomist and he has a brother attending college. Lucas has excellent English skills, and describes himself as friendly, easy going and open to new experiences.
The Rotary Youth Exchange program is a world-wide program that provides study abroad for students fifteen – eighteen years old. Each year over 8,000 students from 28 countries participate in the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Ten students from abroad will attend schools in NE Ohio in the year 2017-2018.
An ideal exchange places a student in two to four homes during the year. This results in a more diversified cultural experience for the student and minimizes the burden on any one family. Host families must reside in Hudson but need not have children attending Hudson schools. Families must be motivated to host a foreign student and all members of the family must want the student and the opportunity to experience a different culture within the home. This is an ideal opportunity for a family to learn about and understand a different culture. Further information about the youth exchange program may be found at www.rotarydistrict6630.org or by calling Joe Avella at 330-715-9733.
