Past Meeting
Jennifer Fisher, co-director of Hudson Community First, is pictured with February Speaker Chair Tom Tobin. Mrs. Fisher shared the increased scope of activities undertaken by Hudson Community First. They are providing services to youth at Hudson High School, Western Reserve Academy, Montessori School and Seton Catholic School. They also have a large and active group of community volunteers who support their efforts with time and treasure. 175 students at Hudson High School also are participating with the organization. In addition to their innovative independence learning day (Uncharted Waters), they sponsor nationally acclaimed speakers brought into our community to address issues of mental health and wellness. She shared several lists that offer tips to adults-parents, grandparents and friends of youth-who want to establish healthy and productive relationships. Most of their funding is obtained through grants and a major fundraiser (Toast to Hudson) held in late February each year.
...The 4-Way Speech contest is coming up soon and Jim Ahern is again leading our efforts. Judges will be needed to select the two speakers from each high school that will advance to the club level speech contest. Please consider being a school judge. It's a wonderful experience and the students are trying hard to master their craft.
...Tom Tobin won the Rotabuck Raffle but the big payout is still remaining to be claimed.
...It was a joyous day when four Rotarians were honored with Paul Harris Fellowships. Pictured above are President Terri with Mimi Becker, Barbara Marshall (7th award), Tom Tobin (6th award) and Jay Yard. Congratulations to all!
...Thanks to Terri Bortnik, Gale Kalb, Madeline lepidi-Carino, Patrick Scherer and Marilyn Orr who worked the registration desk at the Hudson Community First Toast to Hudson Event representing Rotary. In May, Hudson Community First Volunteers will perform the same duties at our Annual Gala. We tested new swiping technology and it worked! Teamwork.....
...This is the last meeting for collections for Freedom House-Kent is the February recipient of our club donation drive. Here's what they need: Toiletries, Personal Hygiene Items and non-perishable Food. As always, cash is helpful.
