This Wednesday, February 21st, we will be celebrating our 2023-2024 year of Creating Hope in the World. Thank you to Tom Tobin for engaging our speakers during Focus on Youth Month.
Jennifer Fisher and Laura Jones serve as co-Directors of Hudson Community First. They are a local nonprofit organization that promotes positive youth development and seeks to unite individuals, organizations and our schools in an effort to nurture competent, caring and responsible children and adolescents. We have a long history of working with this organization and helped them initiated the "Uncharted Waters" program that offers college-bound seniors a dose of reality with a focused day of learning about the pitfalls and challenges of living independently. Hudson Community First continues to evolve and Ms. Fisher will give us an overview of new programs they have recently launched.
Upcoming Meetings
Feb 21 Hudson Rotary Foundation Board of Director's Meeting immediately following the general meeting. All active Rotarians are encouraged to attend.

Past Meeting
Amy Andrews, past president of the Hudson Preschool Parents, shared a very personal story of how a home fire had a big impact on her family five years ago. They were a very young family and not yet well established in Hudson. The fire was devastating but also life changing. New priorities and a renewed sense of community were the unanticipated outcome. Amy also shared her efforts to create and complete the Permanent Safety Town Installation at McDowell Elementary School. Ms Andrews is a former kindergarten teacher and children’s librarian who most often worked with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. The Safety Town Project has been selected as the third beneficiary of our Spring Gala. She had exciting news to share about the progress of the project (especially the collaboration with Kent Roosevelt High School Construction Class who will build the permanent structures) and how our club can help them have Safety Town ready to present to the community in the spring of 2025. The best news is that one of the permanent structures of the Hudson Safety Town will be a replica of the Rotary Scout Cabin on the Green!
...The 4-Way Speech contest is coming up soon and Jim Ahern is again leading our efforts. Judges will be needed to select the two speakers from each high school that will advance to the club level speech contest. Please consider being a school judge. It's a wonderful experience and the students are trying hard to master their craft.
... Freedom House-Kent is the February recipient of our club donation drive. This is a transitional housing facility for homeless veterans. They provide 24/7 support, structured and engaging therapies. Each veteran is provided with an individual room and stays 6-12 months on average. Here's what they need: Toiletries, Personal Hygiene Items and non-perishable Food. As always, cash is helpful.
